Rrrrrrr.

I still never hear my mobile phone ringing.

I had all good intentions and actually got the Stelton strap (grey) that I liked so much. Read about it here. But all good intentions are still good intentions didn’t help much. I realised that going around with a strap around my neck wasn’t my thing. Since the shape of cell phones look a bit different now, we nowadays have a cover for our phones instead. I got mine in Bangkok. Got a wallet too. In silver. And boy do I love my silver stuff.

Thank God I got two wallets since a wallet tend to look, well, let’s just say not so good after a long wear and tear. It is soon time for me to start making wallet No. 2 my main man, best friend, someone I can trust. And yes, I do have a smaller sized coin wallet too. Cute, don’t you think?

The phone cover. Looks lovely. Works like a charm. No scratches on my phone, no sir. However. Muffles the ringing.

Alas, I still can’t hear my phone ringing. Does it matter much? Not really, I have a very nice cover for it so who cares? Maybe the people that are trying to phone me cares. Sorry guys!

World Design Capital 2012.

The World Design Capital is an interesting phenomenon. And it does a lot to the city in question. I wrote about it last year. You can read the post here. And now it is Helsinki’s turn to host events in the name The World Design Capital. The Finns have indeed made an interesting program that spans over the 12 months of 2012. Read all about it here

Finland is a country of many great designers. And I trust more are to come in the years ahead.

Tapio Wirkkala made this beautiful table in 1958

and Katriina Nuutinen made these beauties recently, the Pulu Oil Lamp.

Designs from the past to the present and with the confidence of Finland. No wonder Helsinki is the World Design Capital 2012.

In the rough.

I have a thing for rough stones. I like the idea of a rough diamond for example. The polished ones are beautiful, no question about it. But there is something to be said for a rough diamond.

The designer is Laura Treolar and her company is Specimental Custom Raw Diamond and Gem Jewelry. You can buy her beautiful jewelry here

The sincerest form of flattery.

Isn’t this ring beautiful?! It is a piece of lava that has been polished until smooth but the pits and holes have been kept. And look at the ring band. It mimics the pits and holes in the piece of lava. Nice touch!

The ring is called Holey Ring and is made by Sharon Moore. You can buy it here

For the love of books.

I love books. There is something to be said for holding a book, reading, turning the page, escaping the daily grind (oh well, you might just end up in another grind depending on what you read but you get my drift). The City Library of Stuttgart in Germany recently opened (October 2011) its brand new library after a three year building period. And boy, oh boy, is it a work of art. I can’t wait to visit Stuttgart. The architect behind this art piece is Korean Eun Young Yi and his work was chosen out of 235 competitors.

Baggu is Bag in Japanese.

Baggu. Remember this name. The people behind Baggu started with making recyclabe bags in textile. They continued making the same bags in leather. And then they got an excellent idea. Why not make a bag out of the piece that they usually don’t use. A rounded little pouch with a zipper. And I just love those pouches. Aren’t they lovely?! Look here at all Baggus various models. You can buy them here.
