Rrrrrrr.

I still never hear my mobile phone ringing.

I had all good intentions and actually got the Stelton strap (grey) that I liked so much. Read about it here. But all good intentions are still good intentions didn’t help much. I realised that going around with a strap around my neck wasn’t my thing. Since the shape of cell phones look a bit different now, we nowadays have a cover for our phones instead. I got mine in Bangkok. Got a wallet too. In silver. And boy do I love my silver stuff.

Thank God I got two wallets since a wallet tend to look, well, let’s just say not so good after a long wear and tear. It is soon time for me to start making wallet No. 2 my main man, best friend, someone I can trust. And yes, I do have a smaller sized coin wallet too. Cute, don’t you think?

The phone cover. Looks lovely. Works like a charm. No scratches on my phone, no sir. However. Muffles the ringing.

Alas, I still can’t hear my phone ringing. Does it matter much? Not really, I have a very nice cover for it so who cares? Maybe the people that are trying to phone me cares. Sorry guys!

Tom Dixon.

Tom Dixon. At Designboost. And I was not there.

Awful. Simply awful. Not Tom Dixon. He is not awful. It is awful that I missed his lecture at Designboost.

Tom Dixon is my designer hero. I love what he does. As if it isn’t evident by now. I don’t know how many posts I have about his products.

And I keep coming back to the products he designs. I guess I always will.

For instance, I wouldn’t mind having a Tom Dixon couch, and a Tom Dixon coffee table, and well, two arm chairs like these (but with black legs). And to finish it off why not place a couple of candle holders on the coffee table. And why not a floor lamp beside all this?

And a dining table would be good to have too.

Baggu is Bag in Japanese.

Baggu. Remember this name. The people behind Baggu started with making recyclabe bags in textile. They continued making the same bags in leather. And then they got an excellent idea. Why not make a bag out of the piece that they usually don’t use. A rounded little pouch with a zipper. And I just love those pouches. Aren’t they lovely?! Look here at all Baggus various models. You can buy them here.

The Chick-a-Dee Smoke Detector.

Smoke detectors, oh how important, and oh it really save lives, but oh how…not nice it looks. It can look like this

Or like this

Or even like this

ZZZzzzzzzz…You get my drift, right? Not that you really see the smoke alarm up there in the ceiling. But you still sort of do. There is this…blorb in the middle of the ceiling quite annoying for a design freaks eye. Or maybe to a normal person too?

Therefore, without further ado I would like to introduce to you: The Chick-a-Dee Smoke Detector

Dutch designer Louise van der Veld is the smart brain behind this and  in 2007 she won first prize in the competition Moi uit de Brand. The smoke detector is now available in stores across The Netherlands and in various web shops. Just google it and you will find a store just for you. Or try this one

But seriously people, this cute bird come smoke detector will make you happy every time you happen to look at the ceiling. It is there, no matter what, why not make it memorable?

What can’t you do from what the bees produces.

When I was little I had a candle made from bees wax. Only one. But oh, how I liked that candle. It twirled around the candlewick in such a twirly way. I liked that. Unfortunately it melted away as we lit it and enjoyed the smell and the sight of the beautiful yellow flame. And then I forgot about it. Life went by, and suddenly I had my own family with kids of my own. The daily rut cut into life and everything went…grown up, whatever that is. And then came along these beautiful beecups.  And I suddelny felt so inspired. Yezzz. Happiness in a little (bee)bowl!

Keep an eye out for what’s happening on the design scene in South America. A true design mekka.  The Chilean designer Mariana Tocornal use bees wax to mold different objet d’art. Check this bee cup out

Handbag the macaron way

For those of us that insist on being on/staying on (phew..) a diet, macarons are a no no. But you can cheat. You actually should cheat, Because You’re Worth It! If you want a macaron with a little less sugar in it, try the Kenzo macaron inspired handbag. Yes handbag. Small, Cute, Sweet as candy. If the inspiration for a beautiful carpet can stem from macarons, so can a cute little handbag.

Barefoot and passionate about colors.

In Colombo there is a wonderful shop alas gallery alas café called Barefoot. Color is Barefoot‘s passion. And as you walk through the store and enjoy the textures, designs and materials you are hit with a burst of colors. Colors everywhere. And great materials. Now, it ain’t cheap, but it is organic, hand made and nothing is mass produced. You know that if you have a Barefoot item, there aren’t many more around.

The yarn Barefoot use have been dyed and all textile is woven by hand by skilled artisans in the villages of Sri Lanka. There are many color combination’s throughout the store, like these, more subtle colors

and these, bright, happy, shouting colors.

All beatiful in it’s own way. But Barefoot is not only about products. It also has a Gallery and a great café situated in a cosy frangipani yard serving (as always) a great cup of Sri Lankan tea with British style tuna/cucumber sandwiches to go with it. Yum.

I don’t know which is the best experience, the tea+sandwiches or the mere cosyness of the café in the frangipani yard. I think the yard is a winner. (But the tea really is exceptional!)

Shades of green.

First came Swatch. Then came a lot in between. Now here’s Triwa. A Swatchish watch. But in it’s on way. Sort of. Kind of.
And since fall is here, why not go for a green one? In a shade of your liking. Here’s three of’em:

Notebooks.

In this electronic, iWorld we live in we still need notebooks. At least I do. I found the Archie Grand notebooks mentioned in the new magazine Your Life. Swedish designer Johan Kärrman is the man behind the new notebook craze. Time to move away from the all black Moleskine notebooks and put some color into our lives (OK, I know that Moleskin has colored notebooks too, but these Archie Grands…well, there is something about them…). Order you own copy and read more about it here

My latest craze.

My latest craze, or craving if you will :) is the Shamballa bracelet. Any one will do. Love em’ all! The simplicity and the fantastic quality weaved together makes it a must have. Or at least a true hit on the sky of jewellery!

If you think it is too much bling you can always go with this one (which happens to be my favorite!)

If you are more into the slender types, there is something for you still

See. Something for all eyes, passions and wallets.
